HOW TO HOST A PRINCESS PARTY FOR 5 YEAR OLDS

    Princess Kingdoms in a Pinch

With only ten days between Halloween and Alice’s 5th Birthday, we pretty much had to prep our Princess Party in a pinch. Last year’s Tinkerbell party was a sunny outdoor succes. The weather forecast this year looked bleak, so it had to be an inside job. Armed with streamers, balloons and our disco ball projector, I set to work on the Kingdom of Alice.

I worked on the decorations while Mumma got busy with the Princess cake. A great decorating tip for setting up a room with limited time: the sheet. Our playroom looks like the first draft of Santa’s Workshop. Toys (read:junk) everywhere. I just piled everything up at one end in a vaguely castlely-kind-of shape, then threw the sheet over the top. The same black sheet I used to block off the inside of the garage for Halloween. I printed out a bunch of gems onto some sticker paper. We cut them out and Alice stuck them all over the sheet.

I hung streamers and balloons and turned on the disco ball projector. Wha-la! A sparkly gemstone Ball Room fit for a Princess.

    Let Them Eat Cake

Mumma’s cake was amazing. A home-made Princess doll cake. Using a dome-shaped cake tin for the dress, she inserted a Cinderella doll into it after baking. The dress was formed from fondant and decorated with edible flowers and glitter. It was royally beautiful.

    What’s a Princess To Do?

Once our Kingdom and cake were sorted, we had to decide on party games. We had a glamorising station where our Princess guests would be gemmed and tiaraed upon arrival. They decorated their own cupcake before an indoor gold coin treasure hunt. A Princess Power knock-em down game where they test their Frozen powers by hurling juggling balls (snowballs) at the Ice-cones (stacked cups). An adaptation of Pin-the-tail on the donkey called Kiss The Frog. The girls applied lipstick then approached the frog blindfolded. Once they kissed the frog, their lipstick imprint showed exactly how close or far off they were. What Princess party would be complete without a ‘Let It Go’ singalong and a characteristic disco dance at ‘The Ball’.

    The Jewel In Our Crown

Our major set-piece this year was the running of our Princess Gauntlet. The spider legs from our Halloween display were joined together to make a long pole, suspended from our ceiling. From which, four balls covered in aluminium foil were hung with string. The girls piled their shoes at one end and lined up at the other. The object of this game was for each Princess to dodge the swinging balls as they made their way along the gauntlet to their shoes. Once making it through, they need to find their own slippers amidst the pile. Once their slippers are back on, they have to make their way back past the swinging balls. It was quite hilarious and the absolute highlight of the day.

    Final Tip

Our final tip to a perfect Princess Party is to dress for the occasion. It’s the part we love the most and really makes for a special experience if you put in the effort. The perfect example being that originally, Indy decided he didn’t want to dress up. Then when he saw us in our costumes, he decided he wanted to…20 mins before the party started. We threw together an ensemble for him minutes before our guests arrived. Hilariously, he not only stayed in it the whole day but slept in it that night as well.

It just goes to show that you don’t need a ton of time or money to make a birthday look spectacular. Be creative with what you have on hand and you too can easily create a royally festive occasion fit for any 5Yr Old Princess.

    Happy 5th Birthday, Bubble.
