Indy had just gone down for a nap and I was in the loo when I heard it. Not that, THAT…the shrill of Mumma’s ringtone. By the time I made it to the living room, my heart was already in my mouth, which is probably why I couldn’t breathe. Unless it had something to do with a certain There’s Something About Mary ‘frank’n’beans’ moment I had unwittingly recreated in my haste to zip up and hear the news.
Through wincing eyes and bated breath, I was playing catchup. Having already missed part of the conversation, I had to extrapolate what I thought was being relayed down the phone by piecing together Mumma’s subtle facial expressions, body mannerisms and pupil dilations as she listened intently. Like trying to figure out what’s happening on LOST, when you’ve already missed the first two seasons, there’s just no way.
Even if she did say something, there’s no way I could have heard it over the pounding of the pulse between my ears, like the guy swinging his hammer at the Rank Arena gong. And suddenly, all at once, there was a resounding SILENCE as she hung up the phone. The results are in…
We’re in the clear!
Halle-frickin-lujah! We’ve never been so relieved. I mean, why do doctors give you news in terms that horrify you? A 1 in 38 chance of not working out sounds scary as hell, but if you apply that as a percentage, it’s 2.63%!!!. Which means there’s a 97.37% chance everything will be just fine. And that’s considered HIGH RISK!
And thankfully, that’s where our results landed. On the sunny side of the street. The tests all confirm we’re growing a happy, healthy, little…
Girl.
Wow, wow, wow!
Our own pigeon pair. Indy’s going to have a little sister and the testosterone levels will balance out. 2 against 2. I’m sure he’ll grow up to be an awesome big brother. Me, on the other hand, am 43 years old and still don’t understand women fully. But if she grows up to be anything like her mother, I’ll be proud as punch.
So it’s on. It’s really happening. I’m so relieved, I can finally take a deep breath…and let the REAL freaking out, commence!
Brilliant news!
And a GIRL!! Woooo!! Gorgeous!
Thanks Vicki. I think I’m more spun out by the fact we’re having a girl, than the fact everything is okay. I sure hope she likes superheroes, it’s virtually all I know 😉
Woo hoo Justin and Fi, congrats!! The perfect balance for a beautiful family!! Stoked for you three!! Indy’s going to be a wonderful big brother! 🙂
Thanks, Jersey. He’s already into other people’s babies, he just loves them. Maybe he knows there’s one on the way? It wouldn’t surprise me 😉
Wonderful news. And remember, if you think your hands are full now, you can always grow another hand.
No wait…..
Joyous times ahead.
You had my hopes up there for a second, Dadinator. Was excited that having a second child somehow endowed me with salamander powers. Will just have to stick with the hands I have, but look forward to the joyousness ahead. Thanks, mate 😉
Congrats, best news ever.
Yeah, we’re really stoked. Extremely wide-eyed, but very, very stoked. Thanks, Mandy 😉
It’s a girl!!!! Congratulations!!! Lots of love to you all!! xoxo
Well, I guess it’s only fair Marguerite. We know what the two of us now look like as a boy, in 27 weeks we’ll get to see what we look like as a girl as well. As long she gets her mother’s hair, I’ll be happy 😉
Fantastic, well done, congratulations! My husband’s parents were 50 and 43 when he was born, and he is fine. Pigeon pairs are great (as are same sex families. It’s all good!)
Makes me feel young by comparison, Vicki and yeah, really looking forward to seeing our pigeon pair develop together. I guess it will mean I finally get use both sides of my brain (hopefully). Thanks, Vicki 😉
Fantastic news! Hope mumma bear is not too tired (or sick!). One of each is awesome too, unlike myself who went back “convinced” it was going to be a girl this time, and promptly ended up with another boy (although said boy is adorable!). 4 boys……..maybe I should give it one last go???
Whoa! 4 boys in a row? I know Mumma is one of 5 girls, I couldn’t even will myself to imagine what that must be like, just to say congratulations to you! My goodness, but you never know your luck in the big city, Maree. Are you a gamblin’ gal? I’ll check the odds with Tom Waterhouse if you decide to give it a go. And thankfully, the sicks have subsided somewhat but the tireds are definitely keeping their foothold.
Congratulations! What great news. And yay for a girl. You have a whole new world ahead of you.
I know, I can hardly believe it. We’re incredibly relieved and nervously excited at what that new world has to offer us in the future. Pretty weird to think it’s only 6 months away before we start to find out. Thanks Becky 🙂
