There’s no worse feeling than seeing your little one in distress. And that’s exactly what we woke up to this morning. Indy went to bed last night without a worry, despite a little runny nose. But this morning when he woke, his little nose was caked in dried snot and he really struggled for breath, sounding a lot like a barking seal. I grabbed a few seconds on video to help relay what was happening to the doctor in case it wasn’t happening by the time we got there.

We high-tailed it to the hospital and he did seem better in the car (it’s always the way), but after examining him and viewing my video (play HERO music now), the doctor confirmed it was…
CROUP
Croup is a viral infection that kids get, that starts out similar to a cold with runny nose and cough, and escalates from there. The larynx and pharynx swell, restricting the airways and sounds like Harpo Marx’s carhorn.
Thankfully, we caught it early and started treatment while it was still mild. It takes about 3-4 days to get over and is worse at night (yay, no sleep for us…again).
Checkout the Croup Fact Sheet for more info.
A dose of steroids to reduce swelling which means that not only does Indy like playing with cars, he can now lift one over his head!
Combine that with a few days rest, and plenty of tender Mummy and Daddy cuddles (which we have in abundance), should all hopefully result in a bouncing baby boy, instead of a wheezing barking seal.
Poor little guy…
Ah… croup! There is nothing worse or more scary as a parent, especially the first time they get it. Hope the little fella is feeling brighter and less seal barky soon!
Well, he’s supposed to be resting and not exerting himself too much. But the reality is…BAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! See, can’t even finish that sentence with a straight face. Too many beans, at present.
Awwww poor baby….kudos to the hero of this story….good decision & very smart to take a video of the moment…. Well done Juss xxxxoooo
You have saved your little boy from much more suffering,
Thank goodness for technology!!!!!!!
