QUEENSLAND FERTILITY GROUP: TO BOLDLY GO…!

If there’s one thing I learned from watching Star Trek, it’s that man’s destiny is in the stars. To seek out new life, new civilisations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. But in order to eventually get ourselves ‘off-world’, we actually have to survive long enough in order for it to happen.

So we need to make more people, and keep making them!

As a first time Dad at the ripe old ‘middle-age’ of 40, I understand the pressures of trying to create a family while the old biological stop-watch ticks to a close, like the end scene of Sixty-Minutes. And as a couple who endured 9 failed attempts at IVF (and three failed attempts at world domination), we get how stressful and disappointing in can be to not be able to invade Norway (or create your own family).

Despite our fertility issues, thankfully (o-miracle-of-miracles), we were indeed fortunate enough to have been able to create a family of our own, having been truly blessed with a beautiful son, that I truly understand the gift that having a child is, to your life. And also feel I’m doing my part for the future of space exploration by propagating our species.

And although we were able to then conceive our child by natural means, I still feel that going through those 9 failed IVF attempts and miscarriages, somehow reprogrammed Mumma’s body to remember what it’s supposed to do when someone moves into the apartment, instead of organising an ‘everything must go’ sale each time she was impregnated.

Having faced and overcome our own fertility issues, there is no real way to relay the immensity of joy and love that having a child impacts on your life, other than experiencing it first-hand. And the fact that there are people and companies out there entirely devoted to making that joyous experience available for other couples is probably one of the greatest services you can do for another person.

One such company is Queensland Fertility Group who have fertility clinics from the Gold Coast to Cairns. In an age where fertility issues are on the rise (no pun intended), 1 in 6 Australian couples experience fertility issues. Which means, if nothing gets done to improve the situation, we’ll only be headed as far as the local 7-11 instead of beyond the stars in the future.

One of the issues currently facing both the clinics and couples with fertility issues is the chronic lack of sperm donors in Australia. Which is ironic considering the number of wankers I see all the time just in my local community alone, let alone the rest of Australia. Wankers with no thought but for themselves and their own self-gratification. And it’s this kind of self-indulgent thinking that will keep us grounded as grey-suited Earthlings instead of trekking off as explorers in blue, red and gold skivvies of the future!

Interestingly, most viable male donors aren’t even aware that they can donate. Which means that old excuse, “I can’t even give it away”, is totally void because actually…you can!

And although Australian’s can’t cup your hand and cough up the big bickies for their sperm (just like blood or organ donation, it’s illegal to make payment for any human tissue, despite what the guy from Kiev in the long trench coat down that side alley may tell you), you can be recompensed for your time (covering expenses incurred and time attending appointments).

If you do choose to donate you are now required to have identifying information added to a register so that any future offspring have the option to contact you when they reach 18 years of age. Estimates are that one single ejaculation contains between 50-500 million sperm, 40% of which may be viable. Can you imagine the impact this one selfless act could have on the future of Australia and the amount of indescribable joy that could bring to childless couples, desperate for a family?

    Transformational.

You would literally transform their lives, presenting them with a gift of such graciousness and magnitude that Santa Claus would owe you BIG TIME, and the future of mankind will thrive, thanks to you.

On top of being the greatest man on earth for providing the greatest gift you could possibly give another person desperate to create their own family, another great benefit to you is that you will receive a thorough health check, including a semen analysis and genetic testing, to ensure everything is in perfect working order.

Everyone deserves the chance to be a parent and not everyone can be naturally. Sperm donors come from all walks of life. Chat about it with your partner and consider whether you would be willing to donate sperm.

    And don’t be a wanker.

Be a donor…and help mankind to reach the stars.

We had to go through fertility treatment to get our daughter and we used Queensland Fertility Group. They are wonderful, I can’t recommend them enough. It is hard to describe how amazing the feeling is when you’ve spent years wanting a baby to finally get one. I think people just can’t understand the intensity of emotions involved unless they’ve been through it themselves. So glad you guys got your miracle baby too.

Wow, that’s amazingly awesome that you were able to realise having a family of your own, Toni. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I totally relate and agree entirely how impossible it is to truly grasp the magnitude of joy having a child brings into your life without experiencing it yourself. If it was possible, I wish every person on earth could experience that level of joy, and for folks struggling with fertility issues of their own, I only hope this message encourages people to at least consider bringing that level of joy to others in search of it.

Just make sure it’s a deposit and not a withdrawal, Rory. Lol
